Pentathlon World Champs by Remote

The challenges of Covid-restricted production has been challenging all sports, and for our long term client the UIPM, this was no exception when still trying to run the last World Championships before the delayed Tokyo Olympics.

So this became a challenge in turn for Pro-Active in delivering the required daily live coverage and highlights form the event being hosted in Cairo, Egypt.

At the last minute, Egypt was added the the UK red list, meaning the crew were unable to travel and this would have to become the first UIPM event handled by remote from the UK.

This meant calling on our international contacts to insert a crew we had pre-trained across different countries, as well as the host Egyptian broadcaster, One Time, that we had worked so well with on site before at past events in the country.

With the help of long-term partners, Globecast UK, we were able to meet the challenge and set up a remote live production and commentary centre that allowed us to bring live coverage back from Cairo, voice in the UK and re-distribute to the 20+ broadcasters depending on our satellite world feed as well as live streaming output .

It was a stressful but successful three weeks from initial problem to final delivery of over 30 hours of  planned programming - a great technical and co-ordination achievement for the sport and for the Pro-Active team.
